The partnership that Wikimedia CH and the Science et Cité Foundation agreed in August 2023 brings results. As part of the “ResearCH goes Wiki” programme, the two organisations have launched the project “Wiki goes HoCHschule”. The aim is to jointly offer Wikipedia workshops at universities in which lecturers and students upload academic content to the online encyclopaedia and thus make research results accessible to a wide audience.

In the autumn semester of 2023, such workshops were offered at the universities of Lausanne and St. Gallen, including on the topic of climate finance. The students have created or revised numerous articles. They are listed on the project pages.

The mission of the Science et Cité Foundation is, on the one hand, to make researchers aware of society’s need for information and, on the other, to promote understanding and dialogue in society about the goals and effects of science. “Wikipedia is an ideal platform for this. With this in mind, it made sense for us to collaborate with Wikimedia CH,” says Flurin Beuggert, project manager at Science et Cité. “With this project, we want to build bridges between science and society.”

With this collaboration, Wikimedia CH is fulfilling its mission to bring people together to spread free knowledge for a neutrally informed and open society, and to enable them to both share their knowledge and network with other volunteer authors in the Wikimedia universe.

A new workshop will start on 7 March 2024 at the University of Neuchâtel as part of the Master’s degree in Biodiversity Conservation. An introduction to Wikipedia editing will take place that day. In May, students will then work in small groups on articles on the topic.
